Bassetlaw Boys beat City of Stoke

They almost took the lead within 30 seconds of the kick-off when a lightning slick attack was only halted by an incredible save by the Stoke goalkeeper.

Bassetlaw were not to be denied however and whole team efficiency and teamwork enabled them to take a first half 2-0 lead as Ryan Dixon and Jay Smith crashed home unstoppable strikes.

Stoke had been completely outplayed before the interval but came out looking more determined in the second half.

Nevertheless as the Bassetlaw Boys held firm and always looked the most likely to add to their tally.

With five minutes remaining full-back Finn Sweetnam completed an all round top class display when a great shot from just outside the penalty area made it 3-0 and finished off another great team performance.

Bassetlaw now have a free Saturday before meeting the City of Gloucester Boys at Harworth on the 28th October.

AT the end of the week the league leaders of the large schools divisions will qualify to play in the Bassetlaw Finals of the ESFA Tesco National Championship.

Carr Hill head Division One and look the most likely qualifiers from Division One and will probably be joined by Sir Edmund Hillary and Harworth C of E.

Hillary are amassing a great number of goals, hitting the net 21 times in three matches against Ordsall, Holy Family and Prospect Hill, their all round strength illustrated by the fact that Travis Matthews, Toby Howard, Josh Hooton , Daniel Scott and Zac Walker have all got onto the scoresheet.

Similarly, marksmen Harvey Walker, Joshua Harford, Jack Wilson, Taylor Hall and Bradley Guy have put Harworth in a strong position to be the Division Three representatives
