COUNTY CRICKET: Taylor continues stunning innings for Notts

Sussex v Nottinghamshire; Day Two - Lunch

James Taylor progressed to his highest Championship score as Nottinghamshire built a strong position on the second day of the LV County Championship match against Sussex at Horsham.

The 25-year-old was undefeated on 225 at lunch, beating his previous best of 204 not out, also against Sussex, in 2013, as Nottinghamshire reached 455 for 5.

Taylor was relatively quiet for the first half hour after play had started 30 minutes late because of drizzle and bad light.

But he cut loose with successive boundaries off Ollie Robinson before greeting off-spinner Peter Burgoyne’s arrival by depositing him into the tennis courts for the first of two sixes, the second of which over long on took him to his second double hundred against Sussex.

With Chris Read undefeated on 84 and offering excellent support, Notts didn’t lose a wicket in the session as he and Taylor extended their partnership to 269, beating the Nottinghamshire record for the sixth wicket against Sussex which had stood since 1887.
