Kilbride Infrastructure are submitting plans to construct and operate an Refused Derived Fuel (RDF) energy plant on the site of the former recycling plant on Shireoaks Road.

The incinerator will have a maximum generating capacity of 10MW that will burn around 92,000 tonnes of waste a year.

The application will ultimately be determined by Notts County Council in consultation with planners at Bassetlaw Council.

But protestors are determined to ensure the project never gets off the ground citing damage to the local environment, health concerns and the impact of increased traffic on the immediate surrounding areas.

“I am not against incinerators but this one is being proposed for completely the wrong location,” said County Coun Kevin Greaves.

“The site used to be on the outskirts but Worksop has grown in recent years and it is now right in the middle of town.”

“There are houses close by and school and there are health issues that need to be raised and the public need to be consulted properly, which they haven’t so far.”
