Worksop station Manager Dick Dawson said: “Our fire crews were faced with a severe fire in a building used for storing recycling material on the site and worked hard to bring it under control.”

“This is a complicated and time-consuming process and it is likely that fire crews will be there some time to ensure the fire is out completely.”

“However, I would like to reassure the people of Worksop that we are doing all we can to extinguish it as quickly as possible and get things back to normal at the centre and in the surrounding area.”

Fire crews were called to the site on Shireoaks Road, Worksop at 4:39am on Sunday, 23rd February to reports of a fire in a single-storey barn used for recycling storage.

Up to 50 firefighters and officers from 10 different fire stations were involved in the incident at its height.

They used seven water jets, an aerial ladder platform and two light portable pumps to bring the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and an investigation is under way.
