Worksop: Bassetlaw MP, John Mann, has demanded truck drivers are better protected after a Misterton man was threatened at the UK border

After a Misterton lorry driver was threatened at the UK border Bassetlaw MP, John Mann, has demanded that the Government acts to protect truck drivers passing through Calais.

John Mann has written to the Prime Minister, David Cameron, calling on him to intervene and ensure that truck drivers are properly protected.

He said: “I used to drive trucks through Calais, so I know how it works. “

“Truck drivers keep our country going and it is disgraceful that they fear for their lives whilst doing their jobs.”

A lorry driver from Misternon, Mr Hardy, said “The problem is before we reach the border.”

“With queues of up to five hours we are constantly threatened by groups of migrants with knives who want to gain access to our trucks”

“We get almost no protection from the French police.”

“My fear is that a driver will soon be killed.”
