Whitwell: Motorway flasher exposed himself to same woman five times as he overtook her

A Whitwell man has admitted flashing at a woman five times as they sped along a motorway.

Mark Jones, 44, of Spring Hill, exposed himself to the woman, who has not been named, as he overtook her, Leeds Crown Court was told.

The court heard that Jones had followed the woman along the M1 and M62 back in September 2012.

When he first drew alongside her car, he made eye contact before lifting himself out of the driver’s seat and kept one hand on the wheel while exposing himself.

The shocked woman then tried to get away from Jones but each time he caught up with her again and repeated the act of while he overtook her, not only alarming the woman but also putting both of them and other road users at risk of a serious accident as they continued at speed along the road.

After he did it for a fifth time, the woman called a family member and the police.

Jones’ registration number was then passed on to the police, who duly traced his car, a Nissan Micra, back to his address in Whitwell.

In court, Jones admitted indecent behaviour and was given a three-year community order.

He was also disqualified from working with children and ordered to attend supervised sessions at sex offenders group.
