The play, which was specially written for the young theatre company, told the classic tale of a beautiful princess who takes refuge in a house of seven dwarfs to hide from her stepmother, the wicked Queen.

With their usual enthusiasm and talent, the budding actors took on four shows from 27th-29th November.

Janet Astle, who co-directed the show with friend Amanda Beamish, said: “Rehearsals got a bit stressful, but that’s the same with any show!”

“It all came together beautifully in the end as always. We’re so proud of the children, who all work really hard.”

The Whitwell Junior Players will be singing Christmas carols outside Whitwell Co-op on Saturday 13th December with cakes and buns to buy. All profits will go towards the upkeep of the company and its future performances.

The group was set up on 8th April 2008 to help children between 8 to 16 enter the world of drama and has now been opened to children from the age of 5.

Anyone ineterested in joining the group or wanting more information can visit Whitwell Community Centre on a Tuesday at 5.15-7.15pm or call Janet on 01909 720112 or Amanda on 01909 470474.
