Show love for your market

WORKSOP residents are being urged to get behind their local market as part of a national campaign.

Following the recent Mary Portas Review into regenerating town centres one of her recommendations was to have a National Market Day on Saturday 23rd June.

Bassetlaw Council is embracing this by having not just one day, but a whole fortnight of events at both its Worksop and Retford markets.

Traders will be offering special promotions during the fortnight and giving away white organic bags with the Love Your Local Market logo on them.

There will be food demonstrations by local colleges and street entertainment.

There will also be cooking demonstrations with chefs from the Charnwood, who will be cooking up tasty treats with ingredients all bought from the market.

As part of Love Your Local Market Fortnight the council is also offering free market stalls to people for test trading.

These will be available tomorrow (Saturday) as well as the normal market days on 27th, 29th, 30th June and 4th, 6th, 7th of July.

Town centre promotions manager Fiona Humpage said: “We are offering local entrepreneurs the chance to come down and test drive their business idea for free.”

“If they do really well, then the next stage for them would be putting their name down for a more permanent fixture on the market.”

“But the most important thing is for them to come down and dip their foot in the water and find out what its all about.”

To take advantage of a free market stall for a day, call Fiona Humpage on 01909 533498 or email [email protected] as soon as possible.
