Sources close to this newspaper have indicated that the Owls have held tentative talks with Pudil’s representatives regarding a full-time switch.

The left-back enjoyed a successful season-long loan with Carlos Carvalhal’s side last term, racking up 42 appearances in Wednesday’s march to the Championship Play-Off final.

The Owls’ first-team squad are due to report back for pre-season training on July 4 and Pudil, who is currently away on international duty with the Czech Republic, has repeatedly expressed his desire to remain at Hillsborough.

“Sheffield Wednesday want to keep me but there is negotiations to be done,” he recently said. “It must be arranged by the clubs.

“I am going to concentrate on the national team and wait for the phone to ring, if anything comes. We will see what the situation is over the next few weeks.”

Any potential deal could hinge on Wednesday agreeing a transfer fee with the Hornets. The Owls tried to turn Pudil’s temporary move into a permanent transfer last January, but they failed to reach an agreement on a valuation. Pudil has one year remaining on his Vicarage Road contract.

An insider said: “Danny enjoyed last year at Sheffield. He had a great season and would like to return on a permanent basis. Sheffield Wednesday are a great club, very well managed and with fantastic supporters. Any player would like to join this club.”

The 30-year-old missed out on back-to-back promotions following Wednesday’s defeat to Hull City at Wembley. Pudil has since joined up with the Czech national team ahead of the European Championship finals in France. He featured as a second half substitute in their friendly loss to South Korea last Sunday.
