Princes Trust team help out at hospice

The young people, aged 16 - 25 years old, tidied up the garden and painted the sheds and fences at the Hospice Day Centre on Morton Front.

The volunteers chose St Barnabas Hospice as their project to contribute to the community.

“The Hospice cares for people with life limiting illness and the gardens are a very important part of rehabilitation,” said Ruth O’Melia, hospice community liaison manager.

“It is a pleasant environment for the patients and will have a positive effect on them when enjoying the garden.”

“The group have done an excellent job and we are very grateful for their help.”

Prince’s Trust Team Programme is a personal development course designed for young people aged 16 - 25.

The course helps them get into the world of work by giving them a qualification in Employability Skills, Contributing to the Community and Teamwork.

The current group have been recruited from Retford and Gainsborough and are at the half way point of the programme.

After a week’s residential visit to Buxton where they did things like rock climbing and raft building, they will now go and do two weeks of individual work experience with local businesses.
