Stephanie Bingham’s “bright little girl” Amber received the plaudit for work gathering piles of rubbish around the town and helping birds and bees thrive in her mum and dad’s garden.

The delighted mother told how while walking to school at Norbridge Academy one day “kind and friendly” Amber said “that’s naughty” while noticing litter debris discarded all around the street.

In the days that followed she collected a huge bin bag full of refuse around Valley Road.

“But we’ve always talked about the environment and looking after the space around us - she’s very much about the environment and is the class eco-warrior at school.

“She’s a very bright little girl - really kind and friendly but in a quiet sort of way. She’s a very good little girl and never gives us any trouble.”

Speaking about the award teaching assistant Stephanie said “I just think she deserves it”.

She added: “She does such lovely things and this is a little bit of recognition - a little boost.”
