Stormy weekend sees Worksop half marathon postponed as park closes

This year's Worksop Half Marathon had to be postponed after Clumber Park was forced to close for the safety of the public, due to high winds.

The Worksop Half Marathon was due to take place on Sunday, October 25, in Clumber Park, but could not go ahead, with race organisers posting on social media that this was due to circumstances beyond their control, adding: '"As a result of this, plans are already in place to move the race to a provisional date of 24 January 2027."

All entrants from this year’s volunteer-run race were told that they will automatically be entered in to the new date.

The Met Office said widespread gusts of 60mph to 70mph were forecast yesterday in parts of North Nottinghamshire, as the stormy weather put paid to many events planned over the weekend.

Storm Boelo brought with it travel disruption, and flooding to some areas across Nottinghamshire.

Meanwhile, a planned illuminated boat parade on Saturday evening, October 24, went ahead from Drakeholes to Clayworth, and was described afterwards by organisers as 'an incredible night'.

The Retford and Worksop Boat Club posted: 'Despite the wind and rain, our amazing members lit up the canal and created a truly magical spectacle!

'Months of hard work, imagination and dedication came together to make it an evening to remember.

'A huge thank you to everyone who came out to cheer on the boats and share the magic with us.

'Your support means the world to our club, and seeing so many people braving the weather made it all the more special.'
