Steven Turner has had his ‘dream come true’ after growing giant dahlias spanning as big as 13-inches wide in diameter.

The avid gardener said he had been trying for six years to grow a huge dahlia flower ever since seeing some at the Harrogate Flower Show.

He believes his success came this year after planting the dahlia tubers in the ground last winter, and placing manure over the top for protection.

Although Stephen was unable to attend the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show this year due to poor mental health, he said the flowers helped to put a smile back on his face.

He hopes he will be able to achieve the same sized flowers next year to take part.

Stephen added: “This year I will just enjoy them in a vase at home. It's a nice reminder that you can achieve anything if you keep trying and don't give up.”
