New man could play in FA Cup

The Worksop Town side that lines up in the FA Cup on Saturday at Solihull could feature a new face.

Revealing that he was hoping to make a signing ahead of the game, Mark Shaw said: “We might have one coming in, someone who would be involved for sure on Saturday.”

The manager is looking forward to a chance to play ‘no pressure’ football at Conference North Moors this weekend.

And he says his players will give it a good go.

But Shaw’s not altogether happy with his squad, and their current inconsistency.

Lamenting the problems that have seen them concede 36 times in 15 games, Shaw said: “We give the ball away too much, we’re out of position in the back four too much, we allow the opposition to get in.”

“It’s not good enough.”

“We’re in October now, we should be better than this.”

“If we don’t take our chances we don’t seem to have a 1-0 or a 2-0 win in us.”

“A lot of these young lads need to grow up a little bit.”

He highlights defeat at Grantham, a draw at Stamford and Saturday’s loss at home to Witton as games they should have won – points that would have placed them at the top of the league.

Although only two teams have conceded fewer goals in the Evo-Stik Premier, Tigers are also the league’s second top scorers

They’re just eight points off the top and still in all the cup competitions – so it’s not all bad.

“There are big worries, but a positive is that we do seem to be able to beat anyone on our day, like Buxton, Stalybridge.”

“We’ve got to take the rough with the smooth, but I’d like a bit more smooth, a bit of consistency with regard to not letting goals in,” Shaw added.
