New homes for former colliery site

Councillors rubber-stamped the application at the authority’s planning meeting on 1st May.

The application forms part of the former pit site which was granted planning permission for re-development in February 2010.

The development will feature a mixture of two, three and four-bedroomed houses to be built on land to the south of Scrooby Road. It will also include the use ofparking courts to avoid individual drive accesses onto Scrooby Road.

Officers recommended that planning permission be granted on the condition that an affordable housing subsidy for £400,000 be paid before 50 per cent of the homes are occupied.

The planning condition also states the developer must pay an £114,550 education contribution and public open space contribution of £71,235 following occupation of 59 homes on the site.

After passing the new housing development, councillors later argued it was a reason to approve the Aldi application (see page 10), given increased retail demand for new tenants living nearby.
