Monte Carlo Rally rolls in! - SLIDESHOW

CLASSIC car enthusiasts braved the cold and wet weather as the Monte Carlo Classic Rally arrived in the area.

The Ye Olde Bell Hotel at Barnby Moor was the official checkpoint for the rally which is now in its 102nd year.

Cars including Lancias, Triumph, Porsches and Minis were among the vehicles due to take part, with competitors from as far afield as Australia, the Czech Republic, Malta and France competing.

Only about 40 cars are attempting to complete the 2,000 mile route, with the remainding 60 cars competing in set stages of the rally in support events.

The cars left this year’s host city, Glasgow on Saturday and are due to arrive in the sunshine of the French Riviera and Monte Carlo late this week.

During their journey they will take part in the famous concentration runs in the snow of the Alps.

The Monte Carlo Rally is one of the most famous motorsport events in the world and was created in 1911 by Prince Albert 1 to entice wealthy car owners to the famous casinos of the French Riviera.
