MALCOLM SPENCER (independent)

I am the only truly Independent candidate. The other three either are, or until recently were, members of mainstream political parties.

To maintain the impartiality and freedom of interference from politics I contend politicians should have no direct influence in policing.

This is the only way to ensure the principle of policing by the consent of the public as enshrined by Robert Peel.

My focus will be reducing crime & fear of crime in Notts by:

l Giving precedence to local policing priorities

l Increase crime prevention schemes to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour

l Target persistent and prolific offenders

l Putting the rights of victims first

l Forging lasting relationships between police and public to build in confidence, trust and respect

Other candidates talk about increasing police numbers saying they have sound financial plans, without demonstrating what these are.

Notts’ policing budget must find £42 million in savings by 2015. Where is the money coming from to provide these 100+ extra officers?

Unlike politicians, I will not make any promises or pledges that I do not believe are both deliverable, based on 36 years policing experience & common sense.

I am the only candidate that is prepared to be honest with you the public and say that the money simply is not there for this.

However I will ensure existing resources are used more efficiently, by cutting bureaucracy, and without employing more officers I believe it is possible this way to redeploy 100 more police officers to frontline duties, providing better value for money.
