Lorry driver in court over A1 death crash

A motorist has admitted causing the death of a cyclist on the A1 at Blyth, by driving carelessly.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court last Thirsday, Nigel Drake, 43, admitted causing the death of cyclist Andrew Ridsdale on 18th March last year.

The court was told Drake was a man of previous good character and references were put before the court.

Judge Michael Stokes bailed Drake, of Low Street, Carlton, Goole, until sentencing on 8th April.

The judge told him he was a ‘perfectly decent human being’ and said what had happened was a tragedy. He disqualified Drake from driving with immediate effect.
