Hodgetts takes a win on Holmedale Lake

Despite the harsh frosts and dropping temperatures, massive winter match weights have been reported across the county.

Pete Hodgetts is pictured, adding another carp to his winning haul from Sherwood Forrest’s Holmedale Lake.

Pete had already made a good account of himself on Wednesday, taking second place in the Holmedale Open with over 55lb.

Toft Newton: The first weekend of ‘any method’ fishing went well with hundreds of trout providing some great winter sport.

Plenty of bait thrown in ensures they remain in top form ready for the start of the new season.

Many anglers caught many very obliging trout, all of which were carefully returned. Several nice Brownies to 4lb and Rainbows to 7lb put in an appearance.

Perch also fell to lures and chopped worm.

George Picker fished dead baits, boating 4 pike to around 10lb.

Several other Pike to 13lb were tempted in by the lure anglers.

A reminder that re-stocking will take place following next weekend’s activities and the 2014 season gets underway on Saturday 1st February from 7.30am.
