Gainsborough: Shop assistant injured in attempted robbery

Police are appealing for information after an attempted robbery at a charity shop in Gainsborough left a shop assistant injured.

The would-be robber burst into the St Barnabas Hospice shop in Church Street at around 3.20pm on Saturday afternoon.

He demanded that the till be opened and hit the 47-year-old female shop assistant in the face.

The attacker then fled the scene, leaving without any money.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “The shop assistant was left with a minor facial injury.”

“A 17-year-old local man was later arrested in connection with the incident.”

“He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.”

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, or who was in the area of the shop and saw any suspicious activity, to get in touch with them as soon as possible.
