David Bedford, 44, hopes to raise more than £1,500 for the charity after his wife lost her Grandad to Alzheimer’s.

David said: “It was very tragic to watch this once proud and strong man, who went from playing family games of cricket on the beach at Skegness, become a mere shell of his former self; a man who didn’t recognise his own daughter and would just stare confused at his family while trying to make sense of it all.

“But with that there came the odd strong memory where he would remember a past event as if it were yesterday, that is part of what this condition can do to it’s sufferers.

“I was proud to have known Bill, albeit for only the last 18 years of his life, but I have many happy memories of him and the wisdom he would impart with me.

“It will be a tough challenge but it’s great to know that I will be raising funds to help support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.”

Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We are delighted that David is giving his time to support Alzheimer’s Society. As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like David to help us continue our vital work. Please back David in their fundraising efforts so that Alzheimer’s Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.”
