Balaclava-clad men with hammers break into house near Worksop in ‘nasty’ crime

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm and arson after a ‘nasty’ crime in Carlton-in-Lindrick.

Police attended a house in High Road after receiving a report that three men – who were carrying hammers and wearing balaclavas – had broken into the property at around 12.30am on Sunday.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said: “One of the offenders went towards the victim with a hammer but there was a struggle resulting in a balaclava being removed and the three men quickly left.

“It’s also believed they set a car on fire outside the property afterwards.

“Response officers arrived within minutes and saw three men running towards fields.

“The police dog helped track a man down resulting in the arrest.

“Work is underway to locate two outstanding suspects.”

Detective Sergeant Ricky Ellis, of the force, said: "This was a nasty incident.

“We believe this was an isolated incident with no threat to the wider public.”
