Brass bands steal the show

POMP and grandeur arrived in Worksop for a big band concert organised by Worksop Lions.

North Notts Arena, on Eastgate, was the venue for the annual concert by two experienced brass bands.

Doncaster Concert Band and the Notts Band of the Royal Engineers (Volunteers) performed rousing sets to a busy audience, ending with all time favourite Pomp and Circumstance.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the latest Worksop Lions Band Concert,” said Lions’ activities co-ordinator Bill Maddison.

“The bands said the audience was fantastic and the audience said they had never heard anything like it from the band.”

“It was like being at the Royal Albert Hall on last night of the proms with everybody waving their flags.”

Bill said the bands have already agreed to come back and play again in Worksop next year, on 12th October.

In 2015 it will be Worksop Lions’ 50th anniversary, for which Bill and his fellow Lions are hoping to plan a spectacular schedule of celebration.

He said: “If we can continue to build up support for this kind of event then 2015 will be a year to remember.”

Worksop Lions members donate most of the money they raise back into the community. Some of the concert funds also went to Help For Heroes.
