Mr Mann also invited the minister to Bassetlaw to meet firefighters at the earliest possible opportunity, a move welcomed by Notts Fire Brigades Union (FBU).

“Having spoken with firefighters as they went on strike recently, I am determined to help find an end to the dispute,” said Mr Mann.

“The Government’s proposals are seriously flawed, and I have outlined the key issues in my letter.”

“The plans would make pensions for many firefighters unaffordable, and also lead to serious safety concerns. Firefighters will be forced to carry out dangerous work into their late 50s.”

“We need a fair and workable resolution soon, in the interests of public safety. That is why I have invited the minister to Bassetlaw to meet firefighters.” Vice-chair of Notts FBU Steve Bull commented: “We would like to thank the public of Bassetlaw for their enduring support and John Mann for agreeing to send a letter to the fire minister.”
