Bassetlaw: Lucie Martin loses her locks to raise money for Bassetlaw Hospice

An eight-year-old girl chose to have inches cut off her hair to raise money for charity.

Lucie Martin, a pupil at Langold Dyscarr Community School had 17 inches of her pony tail cut off in a school assembly to support Bassetlaw Hospice.

Lucie said she decided she wanted to do something for the hospice and that someone else should benefit from her hair and is donating the golden locks to a children’s cancer charity to be made into a wig.

Lucie’s mum, Dionne Martin, added; “I was more nervous than she was. It was all her own idea and I’m so proud of her for doing this to benefit others.”

Teaching assistant and former hairdresser Joanne Mallaby did the honours and was the one who cut Lucie’s hair.

Fund Raising co-ordiantor for Bassetlaw Hospice, Helen Eshelby, said: ‘It always amazes me the lengths people will got to for us. Lucie is a brave girl and her contribution to the schools ongoing fundraising is fantastic.’
