Bassetlaw: Is Bassetlaw Museum the region’s Best Tourist Attraction?

Bassetlaw Museum is taking on Clumber Park and Hodsock Priory to be named the region’s Best Tourist Attraction in 2015.

The museum has been nominated as part of the North Notts Business Awards in a brand new category, alongside four other local attractions, and is appealing for the Bassetlaw public’s vote ahead of the awards ceremony in 2015.

The Retford-based attraction has this year hosted exhibitions by local artists including Angela Larry, Norman Evans and internationally renowned Richard Combes, who is now in America.

They have helped to organise hugely popular events such as the Farm and Country Festival, The Big Draw and Heritage Open Day, in addition to hosting exhibitions that have marked the 70th anniversary of D-Day and the centenary of World War One.

Sam Glasswell, curator of Bassetlaw Museum, said: “It would be fantastic to be the inaugural winners of this award and we are asking all our friends and regular visitors to vote for us.”

“We are up against some tough competition as there are some extremely popular and well-established tourist attractions who have also been nominated. But everyone loves an underdog so please vote.”

Coun Jo White, cabinet member for regeneration at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “Bassetlaw Museum regularly attracts visitors from across the region to learn more about the history of North Nottinghamshire.”

“Its regular calendar of interesting and innovative activities and events means that it’s become a must see visitor attraction and it’s brilliant that they have been nominated for this award.”

The deadline for all votes is Monday 19th January 2015.

Three finalists will be named on Wednesday 28th January.

An awards ceremony will be held at Worksop College on Thursday 2nd April.
