Bassetlaw: ‘Dob on a Dirty Dog’ - campaign launched to clamp down on dog foulers

Tackling litter and dog fouling on the streets and in the open spaces of Bassetlaw has emerged as one of the most significant issued raised by residents, according to ward councillors across the district.

The messages of this new latest campaign can be seen on the side of the council’s refuse vehicles and street sweepers and posters have also been issued with slogans ‘Let’s clean up this town’ and ‘Dob on a Dirty Dog.’

Coun Julie Leigh, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “We hope that residents will support us with information and, by being an active part of this campaign, we will be able to take enforcement action against irresponsible dog owners who fail to clean up after their pets and selfish members of the public who feel that it is okay to litter our streets.”

Currently, offenders who are found guilty of dog fouling or littering can face fines of up to £1,000 and £2,500 respectively.

The council’s environmental health enforcement officers can also issue Fixed Penalty Notices of £50 and £80.

Coun Leigh added: “If residents report problems such as these to us, we can build up a picture of where the hotspots are and take effective enforcement action, as well as helping to clean up our district.”
