Alpine race for runners

Two of Clowne Road Runners’ ultra race experts Steve Battle and Simon Gregory ran the Transalpine-Run over eight days, including eight stages across the Alps, covering a distance of 261.30km.

Steve and Simon’s time was 54 hours 12 mins 29 secs.

Steve Hattersley led the Clowne Road Runners home, at the Maltby Bawtry Forest Trail Race, in 46.56.

He was followed by Paul Salder in 48.28, Paul Levitt in 48.38 and Paul Summerly 57.10.

Clowne’s newest member, Gemma Hind, completed the Wetherby 10km race in Clowne RR colours and produced a personal best of 57.08.

The Road Runners had athletes in action in local 5km Park Runs.

Peter Roberts, local Whitwell newsagent, ran at Chesterfield in a time of 16.52 and was joined by team-mate Bert Wain who recorded a time of 19.40.

Two lady member’ ran the Rother Valley 5km Park run.

Louise Lowe, who is chasing that elusive sub-20 minute time, almost made it when she recorded a 20.05 and finished first lady home.

Michelle Needham also produced a personal best time of 22.15.

Dennis Learad travelled to Alderney to run the half marathon around the island, a very hilly and picturesque course.

He recorded a time of 1.38.54.
