Top chefs lined up for food fair

A record number of Yorkshire celebrity chefs are set to turn the Food Theatre at this weekend’s Festive Food and Gift Fair at Doncaster Racecourse into a scene straight out of a TV guide!

An impressive line-up of Yorkshire celebrity chefs will be swapping the studio for the stage as they cook up a festive storm in the Fair’s Food Theatre on November 19 and 20, with everything from curries and cakes to stocks and sauces on the menu.

The weekend cooking extravaganza will see Ben Varley, fresh from his appearance on the BBC’s Masterchef: The Professionals, whip up some seasonal surprises from his kitchen at Churchills Restaurant in Halifax, and Swinton Park head chef Simon Crannage, of ITV’s Britain’s Best Dish fame, demo his super-flavoursome but no-salt range of stocks made from ingredients sourced on the Park estate in Masham.

Master Chef of Great Britain and Channel 5’s Street Market Chef star, Andy Gabbitas – who spent seven years as a personal chef for high profile clients such as Baroness Thatcher, John Major and Dolce & Gabbana – will be giving tips on Christmas entertaining with ideas from his kitchen at the Wortley Arms and Montagu’s in Sheffield. And fellow Street Market Chef – and Doncaster’s own ‘galloping gourmet’ – Michael Price, who runs the city’s Gourmet Kitchen will be showing what can be done with delicious produce from Doncaster Market.

Sealing the all-star line up is Matthew Benson Smith from the award-winning Cooking School at Dean Clough in Halifax, Priya Raman from Ramans Homemade Relishes, whose family won the Hairy Biker’s Britain’s Best Cooking Family, and Great British Menu chef and chef consultant to Rudding Park, Harrogate, Stephanie Moon.
