Nottinghamshire’s health chief has thanked residents for their part in keeping Covid rates down across the county despite some areas seeing an increase in cases.

Director of Public Health at Nottinghamshire County Council, Jonathan Gribbin, said that ‘overall we have a positive picture’ and ‘it’s steady as we go’ in the ongoing fight against Covid-19.

He said: "Thank you to everyone who continues to work hard with sticking to all the measures at Step 2 of the Roadmap, keeping Nottinghamshire safe.”

Recent figures show that cases are falling in Mansfield, where the infection rate stands at 40.4 per 100,000 people, down from 43.90 in the past week.

But elsewhere infection rates are rising after non-essential retail and outdoor pub areas were allowed to open from April 12.

Ashfield and Broxtowe both recorded a slight rise, with Ashfield at 14.1 up from 13.30 and Broxtowe at 14 up from 12.3.

Bassetlaw has seen one of the highest increases- the current rate is 49.6, up from 38.3.
