Philip Jackson Column: Worksop welcomes new shop, festive events and community focus

Firstly, I would like to wish Ruth and the team at Priory Cards all the best with their relocation from the Priory shopping Centre to their new shop on Bridge Street.
Their Bridge Street shop is larger and gives them the opportunity to expand on their current range which includes Christmas gift hampers, named Christmas baubles, bath bombs, baby gifts, handbags, purses and in the men’s gift section you will find wallets, scarves and mugs.
Last month I attended the North Notts Fight Back Against Business Crime event which was hosted in the Priory Shopping Centre. The event gave me the opportunity to display and talk about the benefits of Worksop’s Shop Watch Scheme. Other exhibitors included Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue service, Deter Tec, Barclays and South Electrical.
If you were in town on Friday, 31st October, you would not have been able to miss the mass of visitors, some in scary costumes, that joined in the Halloween Family Fun Day. It was great to see the town so busy. Visitors had the opportunity to pick and carve their own pumpkin in Worksop's pumpkin patch located on the Market Square. If you arrived in fancy dress, you could complete your outfit by having your face painted. Children also got involved with Spooky activities in the fusion café and entered the Fusion family trail.

In the run up to Christmas you can enjoy various events including, The Grinch and Cindy Lou who will be in Worksop Town centre along with the Rock Choir on the 6th of December, 12 noon until 2pm
The Santa event is on the 13th of December with a free face painter and reindeer food station. This year’s Christmas Light switch on is on 22nd of November.
Thanks to funding from Charter Trustees, the Business Forum will again be putting Trees up in Town
All events, whether organised by North Notts BID, Discover Worksop or Worksop Business Forum, or a combination of all three, are designed to bring people into Worksop to help the town centre footfall and local businesses.
