Originally written in the 1930s, RAOS will be performing the version that was revised by TV star Stephen Fry that was a massive hit not only in the West End but also on Broadway too.

Me and My Girl tells the story of Bill Snibson, an unapologetically, unrefined cockney costermonger who is unexpectedly revealed as the new Earl of Hareford and heir to the Hareford fortune .

Unsurprisingly, his newly-discovered aristocratic relations are horrified.

Bringing him to Hareford Hall, they attempt to educate Bill into the ways of the gentry and to separate him from his cockney girlfriend Sally.

The result of this is chaos of the most comical kind.

With a host of hilarious characters and witty one-liners, Me and My Girl is also best known for it’s toe-tapping score with numbers like Lambeth Walk, The Sun Has Got His Hat On and Leaning On A Lamp Post.

Stephen Fry’s revision opened at Leicester’s Haymarket theatre in 1984 before transferring to the West End and starred Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson.

“The fact is, Me and My Girl is almost preposterously British,” said Fry.

“I love it, and not just because it earned me a wedge.”

“I love it because it’s silly and funny and romantic in exactly the way I would like to be but can never manage.”

“More importantly, the show is a real star vehicle, demanding talent, charisma, charm, wit and fantastic quantities of energy.”

RAOS’ production will be from 7th to 10th May at 7.30pm each night, plus a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. For ticket details, call 01777 706866.
