'Let’s see what happens': Peter Capaldi's music tour comes to Nottingham

It’s more than 40 years since his formed his first band – but now Peter Capaldi is finally embarking on his first headline music tour.

Best known for his roles as the twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who and as the inventively foul-mouthed Malcolm Tucker in political satire The Thick of It, Capaldi is picking up where he left off decades ago when he was an aspiring new wave rock star in a Glasgow band called The Dreamboys. The show, which is coming to Nottingham, promises “dark synths, fuzzy guitars and noirish romanticism”, with Capaldi in recent years having made two albums of original songs St Christopher (2021) and Sweet Illusions (2025).

Peter Capaldi: 'I never lost my love for music'

Capaldi said: “I was in a band at art school, fired up by the punk explosion, we went out into the world in search of rock stardom, and well – I became an actor.

"But I never lost my love for music. Recording, with all the advantages of the digital age is one thing, playing live is another, but I wanted to see if I could go out after all of these years and play live in front of an audience. Well, let’s see what happens.

"I’ve lucked out with my band, a group of wonderful young musicians who have bravely come on board for the ride.”

Peter Capaldi plays at the Rescue Rooms on Tuesday March 3. Visit myticket.co.uk/artists/peter-capaldi to book.
