The gallery will be hosting a variety of workshops throughout the February half-term school holidays for children up to 11-years-old to encourage them to get hands-on and creative.

The programme has been inspired by its new ‘Brick by Brick’ exhibition – a show of thought-provoking artwork created by 18 artists that has been inspired by Lego bricks.

The school holiday programme will include:

• February 18 – ‘Lego on the Wall’, a series of four one-hour long workshops, where youngsters will get the chance to create a self-portrait on a wall using the famous plastic construction bricks.

• February 19 – ‘Lego Head Badges’ sessions will enable children to take part in one of three workshops taking place at 11am, midday and 1pm. They will be able to draw their own face on a Lego head picture and create badges to take home.

• February 20 – ‘Lego Graffiti’ sessions will task children with the challenge of adding paper Lego bricks to an image of The Harley Gallery.

• February 21 – ‘Speed Build’ workshops will provide children with the chance to pit their skills against each other. They will join expert Lego builder, Chris Mcknight, for a series of speedy building challenges including an ‘It’s a Knockout’ style group challenges.

• February 21 – ‘Big Build’ workshops round off the week, giving children the opportunity to develop their building skills further by working as a team to build bridges.

The Harley Gallery also has two large creative spaces with thousands of Lego bricks, where children can design and build artwork to their heart’s content to put on display.

The activities have been planned by education and engagement manager at The Harley Gallery, Dayle Green, who said: “Our workshops aim to motivate and encourage young minds to be inventive and use their hands to create their own pieces of artwork.”

The half-term activities have been designed specifically for children over the age of three.

Tickets cost £3.50 per child and can be booked by calling The Harley Gallery on 01909 501 700.
