And it will celebrate its legacy with dozens of guitars on show this weekend for the region’s first Guitar Collectors Fair.
Entry is £5 per person and free for children under 10, when accompanied by an adult. There will be live music outdoors, weather permitting.
More than 40 dealers will showcase new and vintage instruments, including acoustic and electric guitars, along with amplifiers, pedals and spares.
Adrian Elderkin, of Silver Bullet Promotions, has been in the music industry for over 45 years and has travelled the world visiting guitar fairs.
He and his business partner Bob Murdock, of the Guitar Lounge in Retford, decided it would be a good idea to organise a similar an event in Bassetlaw – because there was nothing like it locally.
Guitar Lounge is the area's only dedicated guitar shop, selling instruments, parts and providing services, for all stringed instruments, from simple re-strings, to repairs and full refurbishments.
It also custom builds guitars.
"If you love playing guitar, at home or live on stage, or collecting and making guitars, this collectors fair is for you,” said Adrian.
"Over 40 selected dealers will be showing off guitars, electric and acoustic, amplifiers, effects, pedals and spares. There will be lots of bargains, with new and vintage gear for sale.
"There’s also ample free parking. Visitors can eat and drink in The Elms bar or book for Sunday lunch in the Rithul restaurant, located inside The Elms Hotel.
“It’s a family day out. Retford is a historic market town, with restaurants and cafes around the market square.”
