Young Joe is hill climb champion

GAINSBOROUGH Aegir Cycling Club’s annual Hill Climb Championship produced a juvenile winner when Joe Noble recorded the best time to become the club’s hill climb champion.

A standing start from near the railway bridge on Thonock Hill saw Joe complete the 541-yard course which took in the steep climb of Thonock Hill to finish near the Golf Club entrance in one minute 20.26 seconds.

Second was Geoff Garner in 1-20.52 (he becomes the club’s senior hill climb champion), third Matt Hindmarsh in 1-23.55, fourth Liam Hindmarsh (juvenile) in 1-39.32 seconds, fifth Trevor Halstead in 2-01.26.

Private trials results for non-club members: Andy Lewin (Trent Valley RC) 1-09.20 (quickest time of the day), Clifford Lee 1-31.10, David Wren 2-02.48.

Thanks to the time keepers Hedley Stennett and Daniel Nicholson and start marshal Dave Day and also all the officials who made the event possible.

After the club’s hill climb championship race seven riders enjoyed a 13-mile leisure ride, the event being part of Gainsborough’s Octoberfest.

The route was chosen from the Gainsborough Area Cycling Map and the riders were Daniel Nicholson, Trevor Halstead, Matt Hindmarsh, eight-year-old Sophie Hindmarsh, 12-year-old Liam Hindmarsh, Daniel Nicholson, Colin Smith and Janet Simpson.

Barton Wheelers Cycle Club member Hedley Stennett rode part of the ride before heading home to near Brigg.

The riders departed from Thonock Hill and headed across town to Corringham Road and then, using cycle routes and quiet roads, made their way to Heapham Road.

After riding under Heapham Road subway the riders progressed along Heapham Road and Upton Long Lane, then along Padmoor Lane to Knaith Park.

After arriving at Lea the riders returned into Gainsborough where they had a lunch stop at Café Latte in Lord Street before club members attended their AGM.

On Sunday 9th October there is a ride to the Lincolnshire CTC AGM at the Duke William Hotel in Bailgate, Lincoln, arrive at 10.30am with the meeting starting at 11am prompt.

Departure from Roseway, Gainsborough, is at 8.30am for what will be a 45-mile ride.
