World of sport headlines: Dauphiné win for Chris Froome, Sally Pearson feared amputation, Golden State Warriors beat Cleveland Cavaliers

Chris Froome has picked up the second overall Critérium du Dauphiné victory of his career, thanks to a win in the final stage on Sunday.

The 30-year-old British rider pulled away with 2km left to overhaul the 18-second lead held by Tejay van Garderen.

Kenyan-born Froome has said his main objective this year is the Tour de France.

He said: “I think the team are ready for the Tour, and I think I’m almost ready.”

Olympic 100m hurdles champion Sally Pearson feared she might have to have her lower arm amputated when it turned blue after she fell at the Rome Diamond League meeting earlier this month.

What doctors called a ‘bone explosion’ left the Australian star needing two operations, and ruled her out of this year’s World Championships.

“I was terrified seeing my hand going in a different direction,” she said. “I thought they would have to amputate.”

The Golden State Warriors have taken a 3-2 lead in the NBA finals, and need just one win for the title.

A 104-91 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers came despite 40 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists for LeBron James.

Surrey cricketers Rory Burns and Moises Henriques were both hospitalised after colliding on the outfield during a NatWest T20 Blast game against Sussex.

Team-mates rushed to their aid after watching them knock each other out while running for a catch.

Henriques broke his jaw and Burns received stitches to his head and face.

The game was abandoned.
