The eight-strong men’s team, led by captain Trevor Plum, swept aside all comers on their way to the trophy success in the veteran men’s Brierley Cup.

Joining them on the podium is team-mate Beryl Wilson, who put in a series of excellent performances to take home the Dinnington and District Ladies Open Singles Champions 50th Anniversary Jubilee Cup.

Club secretary David Binch said the victories were remarkable achievements for all involved.

He added: “Although Mrs Wilson’s trophy says Dinnington, it covers a much larger area and is a very prestigious competition.”

“The tournament was held in Bridlington, with teams from Worksop, Rotherham, Sheffield and all the surrounding areas.”

“She bowled brilliantly, and it was one of those days when everything goes right.”

“She knocked out some very good bowlers to win, and it’s a big feather in her cap - the whole club is very proud of her”

Mr Binch said the men’s Brierley Cup was equally as impressive in its geographical scope.

“There are teams from Maltby, Rotherham, Worksop, parts of Sheffield - quite a big area.”

He added that the tournament, which Worksop won in the final against Shireoaks after four previous matches, had a long and proud history.

“The club has won this before, but the last success was long before our time.”

“It’s something we can all be very proud of, it was a great performance all round.”
