A WORKSOP jet ski star has had his world turned upside down, by a dream assignment in Australia.

Liam Mellott’s ability to perform breathtaking stunts on the jet ski has earned him a job at Sea World in Brisbane, where he will entertain huge crowds for five weeks.

The 18-year-old recently finished second at the European Freestyle finals, after impressing in France, Germany and Austria this season.

He’s having to alter his plans to go to university to take on the Australian job, but the teenager is overjoyed nevertheless.

He told the Guardian: “I’m really excited, and my family are all really pleased for me, we’re over the moon.”

“It means taking a gap year because I won’t be able to start university in September, but I had to go for it.”

Mellott, who hopes to study aeronautical engineering at Sheffield Hallam and works part-time at North Notts Arena, has added to his repertoire of moves on the jet ski this year.

“I finished second at the European finals in Austria and was really pleased with how I performed.”

“I’ve come on leaps and bounds in the past year, I can do back flips now.”
