Following on from the win for the men in the annual Ladies v Gents match at the start of last month, players from Welbeck Abbey have been involved in several matches against other clubs in the area with mixed results.

On 20th July, the club staged the annual ladies knockout match.

Sixteen ladies took part playing each leg over 10 ends.

After some excellent play in dry, if muggy, conditions, Janet Betts emerged as the champion, improving on her runners-up finish from last year.

Hilary Wignell was a very close runner-up this time around.

The trophy was presented by club chairman John Bishop.

The coming weeks have many more friendly matches to come.

Club spokesman Brian Morgan said: “We still have one or two vacancies for new members experienced or beginners.”

“And as the season is fairly well through, reduced joining fees will apply so there is no better time to join us.”
