Wheelers rising star excels

RETFORD Wheelers’ rising star Jordan Wilson excelled in the Wiggle Tour of the Peak sportive last weekend.

Starting in Chapel-en-Frith, the ride included the three icon peaks of Winnats, Cat and Fiddle and Holme Moss, a distance of 100km, which he completed in a very good 4 hours 53 minutes 17 seconds.

Elsewhere on the competition scene, Paul Austin had a busy week finishing 11th in a split field in the TLI mid-week road race at Stainton, and on Saturday recorded a season’s best time of 22 mins 22 seconds in the Bridlington CC 10-mile time trial.

The following day, riding in the 44-mile VC Nottingham promotion he finished with a good sixth place in a quality LVRC field.

Alan Hazard also finished in 11th place in his event at Stainton mid-week.

At the Forest Town track league, Matt Waters was first in the senior six-lap scratch event and third in the 10 mile race.

The Tuesday evening “Come and Try Time Trial Series”, which is held on the Torworth circuit, resulted in a win for the experienced Dave Clarke from the Harworth and District Cycling Club, with 21minutes 40seconds.

The club ride this Sunday is to Woodall Spa, the route will be fairly flat and the distance about 110 miles, meet in Retford market square at the earlier time of 8am; experienced guest riders welcome.
