Valley riders dominate Hill Climb event

The race up Gringley Beacon was into a strong westerly wind, but the following event – a downhill freewheel – saw riders achieve good distances with the wind’s assistance.

Overall winner for both uphill and downhill sections was Valley’s James Vickers, whose 2.07 was five seconds quicker than second rider Alan Hazard of the host club.

Joint third also went to a Trent Valley rider, with Rob Webster sharing that position with former Valley rider Andy Lewin, both clocking 2.16.

Other Trent Valley results; Mike Geller 2.40, Ian Ferraby 2.54.

In the Lincoln Wheelers Trike and Tandem weekend, the 25-mile tandem time trial on Sunday morning was marred by poor weather which saw some teams not starting.

However, Valley’s Shaun Pycroft and Andy Codd put in an excellent ride, to record a time just outside the hour in 1.00.36.

Away from racing, Mike Overton and Rob Brooks again took part in the Cystic Fibrosis Cat and Fiddle 55-mile cycle challenge in early October.

The duo were blessed with a lovely sunny day, and took a leisurely ride with coffee stops to finish in around five hours.

The weather was not so kind the following week when Rob Brooks took on a 210km Audax event which started in Congleton, went across the Cheshire plains and into Wales, climbed over the Horse-shoe pass, before returning back to Congleton.

Rob’s ride took 12hrs which included plenty of cafe stops.
