Urban race for runners from district

Bassetlaw Orienteering Club members were in action at the British Orienteering Championships in the Surrey Hills.

There were a number of encouraging performances, not least from Will Parkinson.

In the individual race, ran on Winterfold, Parkinson had a good run to come home second in the M18L event.

Robert Parkinson came sixth in the M55S, Ben Beresford 11th in the M18E and Helen Parkinson 16th in the W45S.

In the relay, held at Holmbury Hill, Bassetlaw were represented in three relay teams.

In the M18 both Will Parkinson and Ben Beresford were joined by Nottingham’s Nick Malbon and they finished a very creditable fourth in the M18 race.

The context of the race makes their achievement all the better, as the field was one that was packed with junior international runners.

Robert Parkinson ran the anchor leg for a Notts team and brought them home in 27th place .

Tom Cooley, John Cooley and Helen Parkinson joined forces to run in the Mixed Ad Hoc relay and came home in 55th position.

This weekend sees the action much nearer to home for the local runners, with a summer league event at Rushcliffe Country Park on Saturday morning.

The Bassetlaw Orienteers will then take part in an urban race in Chesterfield on Sunday morning.
