Ultra runner in Spanish race

Gainsborough and Morton Striders ‘Grim Reaper’ ultramarathon champion Jane Benson scaled back the miles last weekend, although the race she entered still presented a gruelling gauntlet.

With an undulating course, the Benidorm Half Marathon offers a tough race that is tempered by the in warm and comfortable temperatures that have the potential to catch overconfident competitors out.

There were no such problems for Benson however, as she continued to prepare for next year’s London marathon with a good performance and a personal best time of 1.55.

She said: “A personal best today, on a newly revised, hot and sunny – and very hilly – Benidorm Half Marathon.”

“I’ll take that (1.55) considering I’ve only done two hard sessions in the last year.”
