Under 13 and Under 15 athletes represented the club in the fourth and final meeting of the UK Youth Development League at Derby, and their victory saw them promoted – in their very first year in the competition. The final meeting was held at the Moorways Stadium, Derby, with scorching hot temperatures on the track.

Worksop had led the league since the second meeting, but still fielded their strongest team of the season in the final event, as many of their youngsters achieved Midlands and UK ranking places.

A delighted team manager and coach, Michele Harrop, heaped praise on the junior Harriers for their achievement, against some good squads from other clubs.

She said: “It has been a very exciting, competitive season with all the other teams fielding strong teams. I am very proud of each and every Worksop athlete, who always compete to the best of their ability , the coaches, the team officials, all the parents and supporters for travelling to each event , they are all part of Team Worksop.”

“Thank you to each and every one of you.”

The coach also singled out a couple of the club’s biggest supporters for playing a big part in the season. A special thank you to Mike and Maureen Packman, for attending each event , acting as track marksman and track referee at all the events – their commitment to the sport and club is amazing.” Worksop’s total of 28 points helped them to pip Newark AC to the title, with Burton AC back in third on 23.
