Tuxford student nominated after Team GB selection

Seamus Morrison, from Newark, took part in the National Dwarf Games in Birmingham this year.

And his performance earned him a call up to the GB squad for the World Dwarf Games this summer in Michigan, USA.

The 12-year-old’s achievements, and courage in the face of his condition – Achondroplaxia – led his teacherFrank Nichol to nominate him for a ‘4Uth’ award, a county council scheme.

Leader of the county council, Alan Rhodes, paid tribute to the youngster and called him a worthy candidate for an award.

“Seamus has achieved so much at such a young age and it is exciting that he is going to represent Great Britain at the World Dwarf Games.”

“This year’s nominations have been excellent to date, and Seamus is another worthy candidate.”

His teacher added: “Despite his condition, Seamus displays valuable qualities such as confidence, determination and commitment.”

“His courage really does stand out.”

“He faces barriers due to his condition, but he’s an inspiration to us all, a truly outstanding student and I’m privileged to be his form tutor.”

And his prowess at sport has given him the chance to meet one of his heroes this year.

Nichol said: “Seamus took part in the National Dwarf Games in Birmingham on the 4th and 5th of May.”

“He won two gold medals, and six silver medals.”

“He was presented his gold medals by Paralympic champion Ellie Simmons OBE, and has now been selected to represent the Great Britain team in the World Dwarf Games at Michigan State University in the USA.”
