Try a triathlon in Worksop

Bassetlaw Triathlon Club are challenging the district’s population to give their sport a try, at a brand new event later this year.

With the popularity of the sport growing thanks to the Brownlee brothers’ Olympic success, Bassetlaw’s own club has quickly developed an impressive membership.

The club was set up as part of 2012’s Bassetlaw Games, supported by the district council’s sports development team and BPL Leisure.

With a membership that boasts seasoned athletes and complete beginners, the club is now branching out into hosting their first race, in August this year.

A club spokesman said: “At Bassetlaw Triathlon club we want to help and encourage people to try tri, and entering our novice-friendly event on 4th August is a great way to start.

The event begins at Worksop Leisure Centre with a pool swim of 400m, before a 21k bike ride and 5k run.

Bassetlaw Triathlon Club have vowed to support newcomers to the sport with training, and the only items of equipment needed are a swimming costume, goggles, a bike and helmet, trainers and some comfortable sports clothing.

Entrants will have electronic chips so they can print out breakdowns of their performance. Visit www.bassetlawtriathlon.co.uk for more information and to enter.
