Trio’s challenge

Roger Pennington and David Houlton of the Retford and District Wheelers, along with Walkeringham’s Martyn Spencer, commenced their attempt at riding from John o’ Groats to Lands End on Sunday.

All three will be riding for different charities and hope to complete their marathon challenge in seven days.

Elsewhere, Glenn Allison improved on his previous week’s results, finishing 68th in Round Two of the Notts and Derby Cyclo Cross League.

Matthew Waters concluded his outdoor track season with a third place finish in the Senior B group, at the Scunthorpe Track League.

With only the odd race locally, the season is drawing to its closure and the club’s emphasis is turning towards club runs.

This Sunday’s ride will provide two rides but to the same destination of Caenby Corner.

The easy riders will take a more direct route at a more leisurely pace, which will be ideal for new riders.

The hard riders will be taking a longer route at a more competitive speed.

Both groups will leave Retford market square at 9am.
