Trio tackle Olympic distance triathlon

Steve Chambers, Nigel Farrow and Graeme Smith completed the 1,500m open water swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run cheered on by fellow Bassetlaw Triathlon Club members.

Chambers finished 39th in his age category in a time of 2.28.02, with Smith 56th, while Farrow was eighth in the 55 to 59 age group despite battling an injury during the run, finishing in 2.39.43.

The club’s cycling mentor Andy Bishop was there to support his team-mates and was impressed by their efforts.

He said: “The bike leg was a tricky one, particularly after a difficult swim, but all our guys were true thoroughbreds and kept a high cadence (spins per minute) to ensure they had enough in their legs for the run.”

Other club members achieving good results recently included Rachel Forest who was first in the 40 to 44 age category at the Notts Big Swim, a 1,500m open water race at Holme Pierrepont.

She finished in a time of 20.36, was the fourth female finisher overall and seventh of all the entrants.

From the 100 plus competitors at Pugney Park sprint triathlon in Wakefield on 8th July, Eddie Knights took sixth place in 1.24.09, narrowly missing out on a podium spot.

He was, however, the clear winner of his 45 to 49 age group category.
