Torch tour continues

The Bassetlaw Games torch continued its 100-mile journey around the district’s schools this week.

Worksop Harriers chairman Peter Fendley began the relay, which will visit 64 schools and 13,000 pupils, at Outwood Academy Portland on Tuesday 21st.

Since then it has visited school kids at Holy Family, Worksop College, Ryton Park Primary, Bassetlaw Learning Centre, Norbridge Academy, St John’s C of E Primary and Gateford Park.

When the torch arrived at Worksop College on Thursday, it was handed over to members of the Elite Sports Group and remained on display for 24 hours before the next leg of its journey.

Head of PE Jonathan Mather said: “We were honoured to be invited to be part of these important celebrations prior to the Olympics.”

The relay around Bassetlaw will take four months, finishing at Worksop Town Hall on 22nd June.
